Hey there! My name is May. I'm a 20-something tech-loving, CrossFitting, food-munching, engineer. I was born and raised in Thailand, and moved to Canada back in high school years.

I've completed the mechanical engineering program with a business minor at University of Victoria. I'm currently working as a project manager at Draycor Construction. I have background experiences in solar heating, aircraft manufacturing and construction industry.

My personal interests are in technologies, food and fitness. Outside of work, I enjoy software developing, CrossFit training, and volunteering as a personal trainer.

• Project Estimator / Manager

  I'm currently working at Draycor as an estimator and project manager. My role is much of what my title says; I estimate and bid on projects, as either a sub-contractor or as a general contractor. If awarded the contracts, I'm expected to be managing those projects. I've estimated projects ranging from small $10,000+ projects, upgrading city roads and service lines, all the way to massive multi-million dollar projects, expanding a shopping mall or building an underground parking.

  Our side of the company focuses mainly on civil and earthwork, though the company also does construction of residential homes and commercial units as well. I sometimes get ask to help do up drawings of these units but they are not my main responsibilities.

• Project Assistant

  I was really excited to be a part of this project. I was to be in project management, working on this multi-million dollars LEED-certified hospital building. That's pretty cool stuff. My main role was in leading research projects around the hospital such as space utilization, stocking plan, traffic flow. But of course, being the one guy with strong technical background in the office means I ended up taking over many work out side of my scope, either because I can do them more efficiently or because it's easier to have only one person responsible. It ended up working out well for me since I was more involve

  It was an amazing experience to see the building coming together like that. It's too bad the project had to be completed.

• Co-op Engineer

  Avcorp Industries

  My role here is my first dap at project management with a mix of technical. Avcorp is an aircraft detail manufacturer. My work here was in a New Product Introduction department or NPI for short. Our responsible was to oversee new projects and until it reaches steady-state and is ready to be handed-over to the production team. My notable jobs were re-purposing the water-jet cutter and helping started erosion strips and other new projects. And of course, there were some administrative works like managed databases of drawings, and created progress reports in my day-to-day work.

  The nature of the department dictates the need for a mix of team members from each department that will be involve in the project after us. That means everyone is their own expert. I was able to learn so much from this integrated team, something new every day.

• Design Engineer Assistant

  My employment at Taylor Munro was my very first co-op work term in my engineering program. The company is a renewable energy company providing solar-heated water system. The company designs and builds system for new homes and retro-fitting old homes as well.

  My job was to create CAD drawings and assemblies for design use, write assembly manuals and quick references for how to program water pumps, and specify and test hardware. I was also tasked to pick out a new computer and software for 3D CAD.

  The work was part brainy work, part hands-on work so it was a lot of fun being there. During the down time I would be in the shop helping the guys assembling solar panels or storage tank, or setting up pumps to specs.

  As a fitness trainer, my responsibilities are to get new members orientated to the gym, give consultation, design a basic program to get them started on their goals, and demonstrate proper exercise techniques and use of equipments. If the members are seasoned gym-goers, I would offer to help refresh their memories with their programs and/or their techniques, or adjust their program as needed, and making sure they have everything they need to continue working on their goals.

  Volunteering at the YMCA gave me exposure to variety of people with different backgrounds. I learnt to communicate effectively, understand their needs and provide them with the necessities to succeed.

I was briefly with the club during my less busy semester to help with their accounting and IT. I also set up a new Linux server for file sharing for them as well.

Pride Club

Pride is a community of LGBTQ students and their alliance. During the first two years of university, I was actively involved - attending meetings, helping out with advertising events, and making buttons for fund raising.

Outside of work ...

I'm volunteering as an apprentice coach at a CrossFit gym. I'm hoping to continue study and develop skills as a strengthening and conditioning expert and work toward a few more certifications. On my to-do list, I'm looking to be certified with CrossFit Level 1, CrossFit Gymnastic and BC Gymnastic Foundation.

I also enjoy programming, learning computer science through various online lectures, and reading up on tech and social media news.
